holiday pretzel kisses {last mintute christmas treats}

These little treats are simple to make a huge hit at Christmas! I made up a batch for neighbor gifts this weekend.

Holiday Pretzel Kiss Candies Recipe

Ingredients:
*Small, waffle-shaped pretzels
*Hershey's Kisses (plain old chocolate are good, but my favorite are the Candy Cane Kisses--any variety of Kisses or Hugs will work)
*Red & green M&M's
*Cookie sheet and parchment paper

1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (or wax paper). Spread out pretzels.

2. Put a Hershey's Kiss or Hug in the center of each pretzel.

3. Heat oven to 170°. Place baking sheet in oven for 6 minutes. Kisses will just begin to melt and look shiny, but will not lose their shape.

4. Gently top each Kiss with an M&M, with the "m" side down. It should immediately push the Kiss' point down, but if you have to press it into the Kiss, you may need to heat them a little longer.

Place in the freezer until the Kiss is hard again (i put my whole cookie sheet in my big freezer, but you could wait for them to cool and put them on a smaller plate if you don't have that much room in your freezer). Package them in a cello bag, add a bow and a tag, and you're good to go!

These look great! About how many bags did it make?

. . . or if you live where it's freezing cold, you could just put them on your unheated porch and that would take care of it in no time!
thanks!

really cute idea! FYI...don't put wax paper in the oven...parchment paper only.

I used about one and a half bags of Kisses and got 7 bags of treats. I put about 16 in each bag. :) We had tons of M&Ms and pretzels leftover, so it could have made a lot more if I would've had more Kisses!

I actually did use wax paper and it was not a problem. I think because the heat is so low and the time is short. :)

These are really great made with rolo choc. caramel candies, instead of the kiss, with a pecan on top. Super fast & everyone loves them! Love the look of the pepermint kisses though, so will have to try this new version!

A friend turned me on to your blog just the other day - she made the hot chocolate jars for gifts this year. Today I saw these and we made them for a quick last minute gift for a music teacher. SO simple and the perfect combo of sweet and salty! Plus they are so festive. :) Keep them coming!

Thanks for this recipe! Great last minute save today. They look so darn festive too! The longest part was the unwrapping of the kisses. My Christmas baking wish...for Hershey's to come out with unwrapped kisses in every flavor :-) Merry Christmas!

I must let you know, I made these on Christmas Eve, and I'm trying to limit myself so I don't gobble them all up in one sitting LOL

I bought two bags of waffle pretzels, three bags of candy cane kisses, and two bags of peanut butter m&m's (since the Christmas ones were already gone). I picked the red and green m&m's out to top the pretzels, and I managed to fit 48 of them on each baking sheet.

The good news? I have more pretzels and kisses stashed away for when I get more m&m's LOL

I attempted these, they didn't turn out so great because I used the wrong kind of pretzels, but I saved them and they were wonderful. Check it out here: http://tiffanyinreallife.blogspot.com/2010/12/holiday-projects-recipes-and-crafts.html

Great simple idea! I'm thinking other holidays too. Thanks for sharing!

I love this idea, however I tried it and can't get my kisses to melt properly. They were either hard in the center or immediately turn into puddles, they don't get soft. Any ideas?

muffinsandmocha said...

I shared on my blog too! Making for the neighbors :) thanks. Mine is www.muffinsandmocha.com

I do this with the small circular pretzels.... same concept. The kisses melt and fill the circle, then press the m&m in the middle. Yum

Lisa Randell said...

I tried these because they looked so simple....and I'm sure they are supposed to be! But it was harder than it should have been to press the m&m down, and ended up 'cracking' the chocolate a bit. So I put them back in the oven to melt them a bit more, but still no luck. Sigh. What is the kitchen equivalent of a gardener's green thumb? I certainly don't have one! Anyone have any insight?
