restyled dresser handles

When my husband was in high school he made a beautiful oak dresser. We still have it and I love it. It is very sturdy and looks great. The only problem is that I have always disliked the gold coated handles on it. They just seemed so out of date.

I recently asked my husband if I could spray paint the handles to give them a new look and much to my delight he was all for it! I picked up some hammered-finish black spray paint to match the wrought iron trim on my bed and about five minutes later I had new dresser handles. It was so simple to unscrew all the handles and spray them in my garage. After they were dry I screwed them back onto the dresser. Don't they look so much better? It is such a simple, inexpensive way to update any handles you might have!

I did the same thing to my entertainment stand handles and hinges. After I saw the difference it made, I wondered why in the world I had never thought of it before! Your dresser looks great!

I did something similar. I am painting the bedroom set my parents gave me and the hardware was brass. Without thinking about it I thought I needed to buy all new hardware but then I went price it out. It made me sick. The next day I had a "duh" moment realizing I am painting the dresser there is no reason I can't paint the hardware. It turned out beautiful and what I paid for the paint would have only bought me one new knob.

Wow, K made that dresser? Very nice! Spray paint is a marvelous invention and way more cost effective than buying all new pulls. They look great!

I have been wanting, no needing, to do that with our dresser handles for a long time. Looks great!

My kitchen cupboards had handles that had a large metal plate to the back of each handle. I spent ages searching for new handles and found a sweet deal on Ebay. I thought I had measured carefully but they were slightly bigger than the old handles to line up to the old holes. I was really annoyed and didn't want to have to fill the holes.
I decided to take off the handles and give them a good cleaning and wash the cupboards down with TSP to prep for painting. I can't tell you how suprised I was to find out that the metal plate came off of the handles! I was so pleased - and annoyed that I lived with them like that 4 years. I ended up putting the old handles back on less the metal plates and now they look great!

It's amazing how something that is very simple can make such a huge difference in the appearance. I've also spray painted my light fixtures in the bathrooms to change them up a bit. I love spray paint!!

You husband didn't happen to go to Springville High School did he? My brother made me a dresser exactly like yours in High school to. I love it, and agree that the handles are outdated. Love your spray painting idea!!
