OOOoooo! I've been looking for fun Valentine's Day crafts and this is just up my alley. Did you actually press the fabric into the styrofoam to help hold the fabric in place or just put the fabric on the surface?

I remember doing a project using that technique in elementary school (except it was crepe paper instead of fabric). It still is one of my all-time favorite things I learned to do there. :) I'll have to try this one with my little girl.

My mom used to make round ones when I was little/younger. She never made any other shape but I have to say I'm digging the heart. What a fabulous Idea. I might even just cheat and get extra-wide satin ribbon and cut it into pieces for an extra shiny look.

Hi, yes we punctured the styrofoam with the pencil and the fabric should stay in place. This used up about 3/4 a yard of fabric. Of course how much fabric you need will depend on how big your squares are.

This reminds me of a wreath we made in Brownies, many moons ago. We took a coat hanger, shaped it in a circle, and tied strips of tissue paper around it. I bet you could heart-shape the coat hanger, and tie strips of cloth around it, for a similar effect. I've only recently come across your blog, and am amazed at your steady stream of projects. Keep up the Great Works!!!

I love it, I saw one made with ribbon but it was going to be expensive to make. For this one I can use fabric I already have onhand. Great idea, and good to see I'm not the only one making Valentine crafts already!

I found this heart at Joann. You could probably get it at Michaels or some other large craft supply store. It did not take long at all, but I am unable to give exact times since my kids and I took a dinner break in the middle of the project. We did start it in the evening and it was done by the time they were in bed so it is a quick project. It will also depend on what size heart you use too.

I am going to make these for Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, and Easter. So many ideas!
Just one question...Did you do it on the back too? Or did you leave blank? Thanks!

Cute!!! I'll be making this for sure. I've started making another wreath with red ornaments, but it's not working out quite as nice as I expected! Plus, I'd much rather work with fabric and glue than ornaments and hot glue.

I remember making this about, oh dear! 16 years ago. Hum, that just made me feel old!

Anyhow, I used pinking shears to cut the fabric into squares.

I'm not remembering how big to make the squares though....

This was harder to make than I thought it would be! It had me cussing a few times. lol. Pieces kept falling out and my heart piece cracked!! It turned out VERY cute though! I used tulle as well. I put a piece over the fabric and it looks great! Adds a little more fun to it.

Another question: Can we use Hod Podge instead of Elmer's glue to stick the fabric in the wreath? Also, do you cover the entire wreath, front and back?

Yes, you can use Modge Podge. You can also cover the back too. We didn't because we wanted it to lay really flat on our door. It may not lay flat against your wall if it is covered in the back too.

I made a number of round wreaths similar to this years ago. I made them a little differently. I used the straw wreaths, wrapped them first with ribbon so the backs would look finished, and I used straight pins in the center of the 2X2 squares of fabric to push into the ribbon wrapped wreaths. The squares were cut with pinking shears. Not quite as kid friendly, but if it is an adult project, it works really well!
