baby binkie clips

It's Baby Week at Little Birdie Secrets! We have so many baby crafts to show you we decided to feature them all week long. Even if you don't have babies of your own right now, each of these items makes a great handmade gift for the moms and babies in your life. And if you leave us a comment this week you'll be entered in our drawing to win some darling baby items from this week's posts! Add a link to this blog on your blog or Web site and you'll be entered twice. Oh, baby!

Our first baby post this week has to be one of the easiest, and most appreciated, baby gifts you could give. Most babies love their binkies (my second wouldn't touch one--grrr!), but they also love pop them in and out of their mouths, or toss them and watch you pick them up 200 times a day. And when it's something that's meant to go in their mouth, you feel this annoying urge to wash them off each time. This simple baby binkie clip solves all your flying-binkie problems. Until your baby learns how to open Velcro, that is. But at that point it may be time to lose the binkie anyway. . .

Baby Binkie Clip Tutorial

What you'll need:

*15 inches of ribbon
*Mitten/suspender clip (we found them in a package of 2 at JoAnn in either silver or gold)
*Small piece of Velcro (either in strip form or small dots)
*Fray check (optional)
*Fabric glue (optional--if you want to sew everything you don’t need it)
*Sewing machine and matching thread

Okay, let's get started!

1. Apply fray check to both edges of ribbon to prevent fraying. If you don't have Fray Check, just sew a small hem on each end of the ribbon.

2. Thread ribbon through the mitten clip and fold over about 1-2 inches. Sew a square and then a diagonal line down the center to secure it.

3. Separate Velcro and use fabric glue to adhere pieces about 1 inch apart on the other end of the ribbon. Or sew in place if you prefer.

4. Attach binkie by threading ribbon through ring and securing Velcro.

5. For a little extra cuteness, glue a large coordinating button to the top of the clip. We suggest E6000 or a plastic/glass glue to really make it stick.

Clip the mitten clip to baby's collar, shirt, or waistband and just watch her try to throw that thing! Oh, and don't forget to make one to coordinate with every outfit!

I don't know why I hadn't thought of making my own soother clips before! Especially when I complain that I can't find anything cute or in a colour I want! Thank you! Off to find some cute ribbon.

Not only are these cute for Binkies, but I made some of these for my Aunt who was on oxygen. Instead of attaching the Binkie, she attached it to her oxygen hose to keep it out of the way!

These were completely indispensible when my oldest was an infant. Fantastic idea to make these for gifts, now that my own baby days are over. :0) Thanks!

You are so creative! I just love how you added the cute button on the clip! You always think about each little detail! I am going to have to try and work on some of these fun projects while I still have a little free time:) Thanks for all of the fun ideas and easy to follow instructions!

Oh my gosh! I'm absolutely going to attempt this one. A piece of ribbon and only slight amounts of sewing... maybe my mom will trust me with her sewing machine for this one project (I've been a disaster in the past, so she has reason to be weary of me!). Thanks again for another super tutorial. I may just become a great sewer yet! I certainly have the interest. It's the talent and patience that I've always lacked. :)

If you don't have No Fray and don't want to sew a hem, you can take alighter and carefully burn the edges. That's what I did...it turned out great. thanks

Awesome tutorial, thank you so much for sharing!!
& Ladies, if you can't find the clips at your local craft store, just type in "pacifier clips" on EBAY.com & you can buy TONS & different styles :)
The button idea is adorable, you can also find assorted cute buttons for cheap in bulk @ walmart!
& may I suggest glueing small flowers instead of buttons as well! or other cute applique(sp?)

THANK YOU AGAIN!!!

Thank you so much. I've been wanting to make one of these but I couldn't find the clips.

Thanks for this tutorial! I bought my clips using a Joann's 40% off coupon so a two-pack cost me $1.80. I had the other supplies, so each binky clip cost me $.90. Quite a bit better than the 4 or 5 dollars Target was asking. :)

I love this idea and am definitely going to try it. However, I think the button idea is crazy! Buttons on anything a baby can get his/her hands on is a major choking hazard. They are cute enough without the buttons to risk putting my baby in any kind of danger.
