love notes {easy note cards}

This weekend I taught a lesson at church that focused on how our attitude can affect the overall feeling in our home. I encouraged the girls to leave little love notes for their parents and siblings to show love and appreciation and make their home a happy place. I wanted to give them each three cards to use, so I had to come up with about 24 cards. Yikes! I decided on this quick and easy design that is also a great paper stash-buster. They'd also make great last-minute Valentines and are perfect to have on hand for gifts!

Little Love Notes {Tutorial}

Supplies:
*Patterned paper
*Plain card stock for card base
*Paper punches (I used a couple of different hearts, a butterfly, and a star)
*Sewing machine and thread
*Scissors

1. Raid your paper scrap stash. Even little bitty leftovers will work. Now punch three of the same shape with a paper punch. Sometimes my three were from the same paper, sometimes they weren't.

2. Cut plain card stock into small cards. Mine were 2.75" x 5.5". I got six cards from one sheet of card stock.

3. Fold each card in half (so you can see where the middle is). Layer three of the same shape in the middle of the front of one card. Open the card and thread your sewing machine. Stitch down the center of your shapes. I didn't backstitch because I didn't want extra holes in my paper, and I don't intend for them to last forever. :)

Whew! All 32 (I had to make a few for myself!).

4. Trim your threads with scissors and "fluff" up your shapes by bending the top two shapes upward a little. So cute! Now go make someone's day.

But wait, here are a few more--they were so cute I hated to give them away! :) Luckily they only take a minute to make and I have TONS of paper left to choose from! These are great to have on hand to attach to a gift, or package up a bunch to give as a gift. Everyone can use note cards!

These are awesome! I would be great to have a stack on hand for teacher's notes and little thank yous. As soon as I get my sewing machine back up and running, I'm going to whip a few up myself.

Incidentally, I make a lot of my own crafty paper for small jobs by putting lots of the images of fabric squares that you find on fabric websites together on an A4 paper in Word and hitting print! Cheap and effective. x

do you think this could be done using fabric scraps?

Little Birdie Secrets said...

Yes, fabric scraps would be darling! Just cut them by hand or with a die cut machine. Cute idea!

I'd love to see how you finish them on the back. When I pull the thread on the back, I leave one empty hole on the front. Yours look so professional!
