a key for any occasion
A few years ago I was browsing through a craft supply catalog and saw these gorgeous, primitive skeleton keys. One of the pictures had a sweet poem about Santa and keys. I had completely forgotten about this key and the poem--I still can't remember what the poem actually said--until cleaning out the craft room today. I came across this beautiful key and decided to make a little keepsake for my children. I saved this key from a floral arrangement I received a few years ago.
This Tooth Fairy key was what I came up with. As I was putting it together, I realized that you could make a little keepsake like this for any occasion. For example, instead of my little Tooth Fairy poem, you could have one for Santa. Maybe it would go something like this:
Dear Santa,
Please don't forget about me.
It's Christmas Eve, you see.
Leave a present under my tree.
Just in case you can't get in--
I'll leave you the key!
Or how about something for Easter.
Dear Easter Bunny,
I really hope you visit me
It's Easter you see
Just in case---
I'll leave you the key!
You all get the picture! I've seen little keys in the paper craft section at Joann and I bet a lot of other craft or scrapbooking stores have them. All you need is a key, paper and some ribbon and you have yourself one cute key for any occasion!
What a cute idea! That'll clear up any "how does Santa get into our house when we don't even have a chimney?" issues! Haha
ReplyDeleteCute and quite sweet! Who can resist a great way to use a perfect key?!!! :>
ReplyDeleteToo cute! I have two fairy obsessed little girls and have found myself scrabbling around in the bushes outside at midnight looking for fairy notes so "the fairy" can write one back. This may just solve my problem!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea!
ReplyDeleteWe have one such key for Santa at Christmas. It was given to us so long ago and came with a storybook. My children cherish that key as they worry that Santa would get hurt in our chimney. I like the idea for the toothfairy as well. May have to give out keys to all the "special" visitors!
ReplyDeleteLove it. So simple yet so beautiful - thanks for sharing. I'm always on the look out for old keys to use in crafting and now I know why, Lucy x
ReplyDeleteThese are classic! They could also be used in jewelry, scrapbooking, crafts, and decorating. What a great find.
ReplyDeleteThose are so adorable!
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! I actually have a ton of old (real) skeleton keys that I received from my great-aunt before she entered the nursing home. She used to collect them wherever she could to see if she could find ones that would work in the locks of her old Victorian home.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any children right now, but I'll keep this idea tucked away in the back of my mind for when I do!
What a cute idea!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so so so cute!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!! My boys and I come up with all kinds of ideas on how we are going to help Santa come in our home since we do not have a chimney! My oldest is Mr. Security and leaving the front door unlocked is not acceptable, nor is leaving a window unlocked. Other Santa keys are WAY too expensive.........I can't wait to make these! Kudos on the tooth fairy key as well, very clever!
ReplyDeleteI love this key and idea. One question though. How does the Tooth Fairy or Santa get in without a key to see this adorable key and note?
ReplyDeleteI love this! I can't wait to make them for Easter with the kids at church!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE old keys! LOVE LOVE LOVE! Those and old door knobs. Oh I could collect them until the day I die.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea!! I actually something similar for Christmas gifts one year. Attached a poem called the Inn Keeper's Key.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea---just love it---wished I had some grandbabies I could make them for!!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Di

ReplyDeleteSo cute! I collected skeleton keys in high school, this would be a fun project for them!
