First he came across the kitchen floor,
then up the front of the refrigerator. . .
and the next thing we knew, our milk was green!
Okay, so we staged this a little early in anticipation of St. Patrick's Day, but just so we could show you how to invite your own leprechaun for a secret visit this year. We used a little tempura paint to create the footprints using the sides of each hand, plus a finger for the little toes. Do this just before your kids come down for breakfast so it doesn't dry there too long. We wiped it up easily with water, but we don't know how well it will come off if you leave it too long. If you're worried about using paint, try this recipe for washable finger paint. Then you can let your kids play with the leftover paint.
Next we added some green food coloring to the milk. This was a huge hit with the kids! They couldn't believe a leprechaun sneaked in to play a little trick. This would be a great way to introduce a little treasure hunt around the house to find the leprechaun--and his gold!
What fun!!! We just did green eggs (and regular ol' bacon) to celebrate Dr. Seuss. I bet my girls would giggle over green milk. :)
ReplyDeleteWe did this one year at a day care I worked out. It really freaked out the kids and they cried for a good half hour! I think I will hold off until my kids get a little older :)
ReplyDeleteCute idea! Some of my son's school teachers have done cute things like this before. But now that I homeschool I guess it's up to me to come up with something fun!
ReplyDeleteWe did this one year, minus the footprints. The leprecchaun hid shamrocks (printed on green paper) all over the house (that I was still finding two weeks later!), made green cake with green frosting and green mashed potatoes for supper. He even made green juice!
ReplyDeleteA little creativity in where you're putting a dash of green food coloring can make memories that last forever. My kids were 3 and 4 and are now 6 and 7 and STILL talk about the year the leprechaun came and turned everything green.

ReplyDeleteAs kids we also set our shoes outside the door for the leprachuns. They would leave us small goodies. Usually green. : ) Also part of our room would have been disorganized by the leprachuns. What fun!

When my kids were young I did the green milk thing (but love the footprints idea!) I also had the whole meal green! It was wierd but fun...I colored spaghetti noodles with green food coloring in the water too! Green alfredo sauce, and Green Choc chip cookies with green sprinkles! They loved it!

We recently did the Green Eggs and Ham but didn't even think to do green milk. Funny, I also saw a blog recently where they did a whole rainbow of colored milk. Pretty neat.
